How to Write a Devotional

Devotionals are special writings because they are expression of what God is showing you as you commune with Him. Devotionals can be shared with other to encourage them on their christian walk. Writing a devotional is simply expressing what God has taught you.

Begin the devotional with an attention getting occurrence that brought you to the experience or teaching. Fully describe all of the related details so that the reader can step into your shoes or the shoes of the one who experienced the situation. Help the reader understand your story by use of your senses when describing the experience (i.e. what you saw, heard, smelled, or felt). Also, have the devotional answer specific questions. For example, what did you or they lack before God intervened? What did God do to help you learn more about Him? What is the before and after scenario? Encourage the reader to look further into the idea, but be careful to not preach your message. You want to share your devotional idea as a source of encouragement.

Peace (Title)

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ (Scripture)

(Body)

As a believer if there was one thing I was in search of it was peace. As I learned through this scripture that He is my peace, I began a daily journey of allowing Him to be just that. I did so by meditating on each word in this particular scripture reading. I did word studies on each and allowed the Word of God to be imprinted on my heart and mind everyday........
